EXILES

Set in 2034, against the backdrop of international state-coordinated pogroms in a late stage of genocide against the international transgender community, it shows how a group of individuals form a network of resistance and survival in the face of their imminent extermination.

In EXILES, we follow a web of seven characters - The Child, The Ex-Military, The Whistleblower, The Siblings, The Doctor, The Minister for Defence and The Girl - as they navigate the horror of their own realities, constantly crossing eachother’s paths.

Inspired by survival-horror video games, the history of genocide, body horror, children’s folklore and genderqueer biographies, EXILES forces us to bear heed to an imminent series of catastrophic events which are already starting to to take place.

EXILES is Mhàiri Mackenna’s second written play for stage.

Currently in development.
